8 FRIDAY - DECEMBER 1972
IMMACULATE CONCEPTION - 343RD DAY - 23 DAYS TO COME
[written in blue ink arranged vertically in margin: 11/17; 11/18; 11/12; 11/11; 11/8]
To Fred Fencht's. John Deegan, who is now president on
"Urban Systems Products, Inc." there already. (Fred had
called me just as I was leaving to say that John was coming
early.)
Showed John WILDCAT - which Fred had redone quite attractively,
AIR BATTLE, SWORDSMAN, TAKE-A-WORD and SUPER-TAC-TOE -
which I brought with me. He seemed to like them. He tried
to set up an appointment for Dick Rosen to look at them
this afternoon but couldn't arrange it. Probably toward the
end of next week.
They are trying to float a stock issue and their future
plans will depend on whether it goes thru or not. They
will be coming to New York a lot until it is determined.
They are still actively bargaining with Bob Gellman about
taking over R.G.I. I told him that HOLIDAY was mine.
In discussing finances Fred said that he would want about
$1500 to $1700 per game for the artwork - some of which
he already did and finishing the rest. I said I'd want
royalties. Deegan said that the only games they are paying
5% royalties are THE GODFATHER GAME and THE HOWARD HUGHES GAME.
On others they pay as little as 2%.
When John noticed pads in some of the boxes, Fred said that
he heard that other companies are coming out with P & P games
and we decided to change to this format. They also agreed
that retailers don't go for refills.
After Deegan left Fred said he'd still try and get Marshall
Lucas to look at the games. With competition maybe my royal-
ties will be better. I suggested his talking to Phil and
he said he would.
Called Bill Eckhart at G.A.F. and he said to come right over.
To G.A.F. Bill Eckhart told me of some testing of VIEWLINE
with children. Many of them could figure what the game
was about from just looking at the equipment - which was
good. They suggested the name VIEW MASTER BINGO, which, Bill
said, is close to VIMGO.
They, the G.A.F. people that is, are thinking of eliminating
the naming of the pictures and instead have the pictures
on the boards too. He didn't know how to tie the pictures
to a specific reel and I suggested putting colored borders
around the spaces.
Many of the children didn't like waiting while others
kept clicking the viewer. Bill thought they could change the
game to get around this. I suggested the following: Each
player clicks once and can only put cover that picture on his
own board. He then has a choice of taking a second click.
If he does, all players can cover that picture. Bill liked the
idea.
Gave the new JUNGLE RACE board, with the yellow "Hut" marker,
a die, and four cubes covered with contact to Bill. Also
