28 TUESDAY - NOVEMBER 1972
333RD DAY - 33 DAYS TO COME
Rcd. [received] the signed release for TAM-BIT and TAKE FIVE back from
Irv. Lubow at Renwal.
Felicia called. Bob Johnson is still crazy about FOCUS. He is giving it
to an entirely independent test panel. (He has been slowed up because
of his 30 year old brother's very serious heart attack.)
BACKGAMMON, she hears, is the biggest thing around.
She has a lot of GAMES to show me next time I come in.
M.B. is taking over E.S. Lowe.
Binney (spelling ?) the crayon people are taking over Edu-U-Cards [Ed-U-Cards].
But Ed-U-Cards will still be autominous [autonomous].
I told her that I had seen Graeme Levin and delivered her
messages. Also that I had copies of S & T for her.
Told her that I didn't get a chance to call O'Connor Barrett.
Also that he is pretty far from London.
Called Phil Orbanes and he called me back.
He has made some more refinements in REALM. We'll get together
for more play-testing in a week or so. Van Zedwitz likes the
names "Regent, Lance, and Crest" for the pieces. In writing the
rules Phil used the format that 3M used for ACQUIRE- having
a glossery [glossary] of terms at the beginning.
He didn't hear anything from Herb Hochstetter.
Carl Eisenberg told him that things are happening, but didn't tell
him what.
Hoi Polloi wants to bring out AQUARIUS 2000 again as a mail order
item. To trim the price they asked Phil to accept a flat fee
instead of royalties. If it goes he would get [illegible word crossed out] that amount in a
year or two, but he decided to accept the offer, since it
will get him out of the debt he ran up because of Renwal -
with a little left over for him.
He is working on INFINITY and it is coming along very well.
I told him that I got the release from Renwal. I brought up the
idea of TAM-BIT for the $3 "Gamut of Games" line, if
it comes along. He concurs.
Claude called. Invited him for supper Friday. I'll try to get
Arthur and Wald too. Claude would like to test MANIPULATION
again. Told him its O.K. with me but I'm sure that Arthur
won't have the patience. I'll let Claude know whether they
are coming or not.
(cont. from 11/27) [11/29]
Call from Claude. He asked if I had a book on wargaming -
THE BOMB AND THE COMPUTER. He has one and sees that
Schulte's - the new management that is, which has set a
$1 price on almost all the books - has a copy. Told him I'd
like one.
