31 TUESDAY - OCTOBER 1972
HALLOWE'EN - REFORMATION DAY - 305TH DAY - 61 DAYS TO COME
To Mike Buschkopf's office. Wrote rules for almost all of
SUPER-TAC-TOE after finishing THE ADD-A-LETTER GAME.
Dismissed soon after lunch. To Job Lot and bought 40 more
of the plastic boxes at 5¢ each. Also bought 5 packages of
graph paper at 10¢ each and a package of stick-on "file folder
labels" for 39¢.
To Felicia's. Looked at some game rules that were sent to her:-
THE COUNTER GAME by Ralph Atkins. Can't remember anything about this.
Obviously it didn't impress me much.
WISTOLI by White (the inventor of CUBITS). Simply a trick-taking
game to win cards that match "money cards" on a layout.
The trump, or no-trump, is determined by chance.
COLLEGE DIPLOMA by Bruce Pfaff, 1971. A long "simulation" of reg-
istering in college, getting courses, picking a major, getting marks,
etc. (seems pretty dull.)
Felicia hasn't heard anything more about FOCUS from Bob Johnson.
I wondered if he is using the rules from AGOG rather than
those from the Whitman set. She'll mention it in a letter.
Ed-U-Cards is interested in new children's card GAMEs. She has
already placed one on ecology. I said that I'd work up some of
the games from THESE UNITED STATES. I also asked for a cat-
alog of their games. She'll have one for me next time I go there.
The inventors of FIRE ISLAND LINGO have revised it completely. They'll
bring it in about 11:30 on 11/13, and they'd like to have me see
it. Told Felicia I'd be there unless I call her otherwise.
She said she'd buy me lunch and I said not to spend the money.
To "Gamut of Games." Phil was just finishing rules for a new
version of REALM and he gave me a set.
Jed Gaines was throwing away the cardboard boxes he had used
for sending the small sets of BRIDGETTE thru [through] the mails. I
filled up a shopping bag full of them which I left at Phil's
house to pick-up at a future time. (I asked Phil to get me
more of them but the next day he said they were gone. There
will probably be more available later.)
To Phil's house, stopping for hamburger deluxe plates - his treat.
Played the following games:-
[illegible word crossed out] COUNTERPOINT - played quite a few times and the one who
went first always won. I found that making 8 - 35 was the
easiest way to force a win. I suggested a scoring system and
playing in sets of two. Phil didn't want complications and said
that players not as good as we are won't have the problem.
PLOT - Played O.K.
NINE LIVES - Played O.K.
VEGAS 13 - Phil didn't have any dice so we didn't play.
WORDS FOR THE WISE - It played O.K. but I still felt that
there will be too strong an incentive to use specific words.
CHINESE CHECK - started a game with his original layout, but it
was a bore. I worked out one with less than half of the
