28 SATURDAY - OCTOBER 1972
ST. SIMON AND ST. JUDE, APOSTLES - 302ND DAY - 64 DAYS TO COME
With the Karlans played ADD-A-LETTER, THE GO-ROUND GAME,
SUPER-TAC-TOE, THE BRAIN GAME - allowing a trade of [illegible word crossed out]
the same type of card when landing - any type, not necess-
arely the type landed on. Also two for one of different
types. (The only way it came up was to get me to cash in a
company instead of trying for better personel [personnel] - before some-
one forced me to trade for a worse card.
Brought them a copy of MY WORD!
Rcd. [received] Oct. [October] PLAYTHINGS. Took out an article "The Big Season for
Games" and put it in 1972 Misc." folder. (Nothing new of
interest to me.) Also put full page color ads for ADVANTAGE TENNIS,
ADVANTAGE BASKETBALL, and ADVANTAGE HOCKEY in "1972 misc."
(cont. from 10/31)[10/31]
"boxes." It was less of a bore then, but not great.
Took sheets for each of the above games.
Phil spoke to John Anderson today (I believe) who is writing the
rules of the games for Hoi Polloi. They should be finalized in
about two weeks.
I brought up the matter again that all, or almost all, of the
games for the first set of p. & p. games were his. He said that
that was just because he had been at the meetings with Carl,
etc. and could come up with the simple variations they wanted.
I could have done it if I had been there. Also the 2nd set will
be mainly mine. 50 were still splitting 50-50. (or rather even
with either 10% or 15% of our shares going to I-Q).
I looked at Phil's rules for STEPPING STONES and gave him some sug-
gestions for simplifying them. He looked at mine for ADD-A-LETTER
and thought they were good.
We tried his new ideas for REALM. I didn't care for the start
(he didn't either) and suggested the following: Have a set of 16 cards
with the Realm Numbers. Face 8 of these. Players in turn choose
one of these. The first 3 are filled with bases, and the 4th
is used for the starting locations for the players. We Played
this way and it worked very well. Didn't play too far since we
were both tired.
He very briefly showed me the 5 variations he has to use on
the same beard. "Encircling"- as soon as one pc. [piece] or a group of
connected pcs. [pieces] are surrounded the game is over. "Exchange Places"-
the HALMA objective. "Reaction"- One pc. [piece] in each of 14 realms.
when a pc. [piece] enters an occupied realm the pc. [piece] there moves, etc.
object-four in a row of your color. "Control"- don't remember
this one. "Head pc. [piece] off the Board" - The HINEFATAFL objective.
Joel Gaines called Phil from London. Graeme Levin wants to handle
their games there (?) for 10%. Phil told him it was a good deal.
Phil told Joel that we were working on REALM and it is coming
nicely.
Phil says that they will be coming out with a BACKGAMMON set
(cont. on 10/24)
