27 FRIDAY - OCTOBER 1972
301ST DAY - 85 DAYS TO COME
Finished writeup of STRATO CHECKERS. BB typed the column.
Marvin Channing called. They have decided, for financial reasons,
not to do ONE AT A TIME BY THE MILLIONS. I'm to send in my bill.
Rcd. [received] October TOYS. New item:- DECATHALON GAME (Sports Illustr. [Sports Illustrated] -
Time & Life Bldg. [Building] New York, N.Y.)
Rcd. [received] [illegible word crossed out] POFORA CHART FOOTBALL GAME, POFORA BASEBALL GAME,
and POFORA SOLITAIRE BASKETBALL GAME (ord. [ordered] 10/16).
Rcd. [received] HEXCHECKERS from Robert Slenker of Regis Game Co.,
Also a letter that SHACKLES is being improved. He has "10
solid games" and will send me information as soon as he gets
them from the printer. (Ord. [ordered] 10/16). He called Simulations about
advertising in S & T.
Rcd. [received] an announcement about a book to be published, in French and
English by Editions Stock devoted to Collectors and their
collections. It is called WHO'S WHAT - L'ANNUAIRE DES COLLECTIONNEURS.
I can list my collection without obligation to buy the book.
However it took a month for the letter to get here and I am
pretty sure it is now too late. The editor is Jean-Claude Bandot
who was connected with the TV program and Game AVIS AUX AMATEURS.
Pierre Berloquin recommended me.
Rcd. [received] a letter from Keith Tuggle about "Light Control Film" and he'd like
to see my EXECUTIVE DECISION chang rule additions.
To Simulations. Gave Red my S & T column no. 35. Got copies of S & T's
no. 32, 33, and 34 and ran off repros [reproductions] of my column. Kept the copies
magazines. In storeroom noticed copies of DIPLOMACY. Ran off a copy
of the latest rules.
Stopped off at the address Stanley Chess gave me (see 10/18). Not
in.
To "Gamut of Games." Nick ? from Simulations. He is paid for
testing games. We played around with REALM. Phil originally had
2 main pcs. [pieces] that created bases when it landed in an empty realm;
1 different main pc. [piece] that created fighters when it entered a
realm with that players base; 5 fighters; and 16 bases (since
24 is dictated by the molding economics). I suggested in order to
give variety in the development of the game to have a set of
16 cards representing the realms. Each player gets four showing
realms in which he can create fighters. Another 4 are turned in
which each player can create fighters. Phil suggested a number
of cards with a "map" of the 16 realms. Each card shows 8 realms in
which fighters can be created. They are setup to create overlap.
(Since it was later changed considerably, the details of movement,
capture, etc. are not included.)
