26 THURSDAY - OCTOBER 1972
300TH DAY - 66 DAYS TO COME
Felicia called. She had a call from Bob Johnson. They are get-
ting things ready to exhibit at stationary show and are
very, very busy. He likes FOCUS so much that he is afraid
that he is not objective. He gave it to two other people for
their opinions. We should have an answer in about two weeks.
The option on COUNTER-INTELLIGENCE is being renewed.
Kaplan's puzzle TACTICS is being returned. A number of
testers did all 4 puzzles in 20 minutes.
She has another gam GAME from Mr. White, the inventor fo
CUBITS. She doesn't think it is very good, but she'll show it
to me next time I come in.
Alan Turoff's ch auto CHESS gadget bounces all over. Too expensive
The original owners of WINE CELLAR and CHUG-A-LUG want to sell
their equity in the royalties for $30,000. Felicia is surprised that
Dynamic Design won't buy it themselves. She hears that WINE CELLAR
is selling the best of any of their games.
She hears rumors that 3M may be buying Crisloid. Mainly for their
CHESS sets.
She called to speak to Fabio (see 10/24). He was on jury duty but Fay
Hartog was very pleasant.
Working on S & T column. Did MYWORD!, copied ON-WORDS (from
BOOK WORLD column), did SQUARE OFF, copied THE BOSS, and
started STRATO CHECKERS.
Call from Claude and to Wald with final details on tomorrow's date.
(cont. from 10/27)[10/27]
Phil and I signed the contracts for the p. and p. games with Hoi
Polloi. Later I remembered that there should be clause that we
were giving Hoi Polloi all rights, for Capital Gains. Phil will add it.
Also signed a form assigning our contract with Hoi Polloi to I-Q. (Have copy)
Another from approving the demise of "Operations Design Corp." (Didn't
get copy of this.) Also sight signed copy of I.Q. meeting minutes.
(Didn't get copy of this.)
The first six p. and p. games will be out about 1/1/73. They will
probably consist of the following:- NINE LIVES (definite), COUNTERPOINT
(definite), PLOT, CHINESE CHECK, WORDS FOR THE WISE, and either
VEGAS 13 (FRIDAY THE 13TH) or SOLITAIRE DICE.
The second six will come from the one not chosen for first six
and the following:- TRACT, NO WAY, MISSING LINK (CONNECTIONS),
XANDO, HEXOWORD, CROSSFIRE, SPACE STATIONS. I'm to change
MISSING LINK to a completely abstract game before I go on vac-
ation.
In office looked at an article in TOY & HOBBY WORLD (Oct. 16, 1972).
John Scarne's new rep is Vic W. Goldberg - [address].
His new book SCARNE'S ENCYCLOPEDIA ON GAMES will be published by
Harper & Row early in '73 [1973].
Phil gave me copies of his layouts for WORDS FOR THE WISE, TRACT
(cont. on 10/25)
