25 WEDNESDAY - OCTOBER 1972
299TH DAY - 67 DAYS TO COME
Rcd. a letter from Don Turnbull. He has an AHIKS
meeting in Bath - 500 miles from Cambridge - on Friday and Saturday
of the week we will be in London.
Asked me to ask Martin Gardner a question on Lewis Carroll.
The New Guinea carving that Don Laycock sent me arrived.
Finished writing up POLY-Y for S & T. Then did BLOCK 'N SCORE,
NEO-CHESS, and CHESSWORD.
Dana rcd. a second "EDMUND" catalog which he let me have. Nothing new
in games. But I did tear out some pages and filed them in
'72 Misc.
(cont. from 10/26) [10/27]
CHINESE CHECK and CROSSFIRE.
Took two copies of MYWORD!.
Met Claude and Wald at Tad's. Then to Simulations. Introduced
Wald to Jim Dunnigan for a moment. Spent most of the time
talking in Red's office. I was sleepy. Red gave Wald a copy
of NAPOLEON AT WATERLOO which he and Claude were going to play. Then Wald decided not to, but kept the game. Claude and Wald
to "Charlie's Game House" - formerly "House of Games" - to play GO.
I went home.
Claude gave Wald and me each a large plastic map of the world.
[Started 10/27]
(cont. from 10/30) [10/30]
time on ONE AT A TIME BY THE MILLIONS I figured that it
ran about two days more than three weeks, for a total
of 136 hours or $1,360. He said fine. I sent a bill
for that amount.
Called Claude to tell him I couldn't change date to Friday. He'll
be there about 6:45. I called Arthur to tell him, and that
I'd be there about 6:30.
Stan Chess mentioned that he had given George Bredehorn
an assignment to do a game FOURPLAY. He came up with a simple
gambling game. There is a square array with 50 [cents] in the
center. 4 - 25 [cents] two spaces around it. Some 10 [cents] outside this
and then more 5 [cents] at the outer edge. Players move with throw of 1 die
and can make one right angle turn. Pick up "coi" when land
on space. After 50 and 25's are gone 10's double their value. After
10's are gone first back to start takes all remaining 5's.
