20 FRIDAY - OCTOBER 1972
294TH DAY - 72 DAYS TO COME
Rcd. [received] a letter from P. R. Vein concerning his game HEXA-GO.
(see 5/31 and 6/12.)
Call from Herb Hochstetter. Date with at Grey Advertising
coming Monday at 3 P.M.
Called Red Simonsen. It's O.K. if my column is in next Thurs. [Thursday] or Fri. [Friday].
Called Phil Orbanes. Spoke to Jed Gaines first. He is sorry that
he didn't get a chance to come here when Joel came. He'll
come sometime after the first of the year when we are both
less busy.
Jed is very enthusiastic about Phil's CARTEL (CONGLOMERATES)
and wants to play it at least once a week. He is not that
crazy about BRIDGETTE or MYWORD! since he is not a card
or a word game enthusiast. I repeated that BRIDGETTE is the
best 2-hand BRIDGE game I have ever seen, and that MYWORD!
is surprisingly interesting. Jed asked if I had rcd. [received] the
games he had seen me. Yes. And would I like more copies.
Yes - some more of MYWORD!
Spoke to Phil and date at Gray Advertising is O.K. with him.
I He spoke to asked him if it was necessary to have
the rules written out. He does for his games, but it is
O.K. to wait to see their reaction.
He spoke to Carl Eisenberg about the contract. I will get
$250 as an advance. Phil owes some more so that his advance
will go for that. We will be responsible for infringement
suits. I didn't like that but Phil said that Carl has always
been honest with him. I pointed out that Piet Hein has a
reputation for trying to go after people for infringement
and he did HEX. Phil said that his new arrangement with
the BRIDGES makes it a completely different game. Also
we can assign the contracts to I-Q; in payment return for
the percentage we give to I-Q it assumes the risk. His
lawyer says it is legal, and Carl even suggested doing it.
He asked if I had done the rearrangement of CONNECITONS,
or rather MISSING LINK. No, but actually he said I can have
several more weeks since it is for the second batch.
Instead of 5% on the actual wholesale we will get 4¢
a game regardless of their actual price. We will be paid
3 times a year.
A lawyer, "David Rice," has been dropping in. He loves ACQUIRE,
BAZAAR, MONAD, and SLEUTH - the only good 3M games. I
remember that I met him once but can't remember
where. He mentioned to Phil that he has met me, and would
like to see my collection.
Called Fred Feucht to try to set up an appointment Monday.
When he didn't call back, tried again. Not in today. She'll
have him call me early Monday.
Inked in remainder of AIR BATTLE, after erasing blots. Came out
O.K. Inked in SWORDSMAN.
