7 SATURDAY - OCTOBER 1972
281ST DAY - 85 DAYS TO COME
Rcd. [received] a package with 440 small dice and 3 medium Bic
pens from Phil Friedman.
Tried out NO WAY and SOLITAIRE DICE by myself. Before
starting on the rules I called Phil Orbanes to make sure the
project was still on. [illegible word crossed out] Phil saw Carl Eisenberg during the
week and the contracts should be ready in a week or so. The
first series of 6 GAM games will be chosen shortly.
SOLITAIRE DICE will probably be in it. The 2nd series will be
chosen in about 2 months, but Carl Still wants to see NO WAY
now.
Phil and Joel will be here next Monday at 10. Phil said not
to show my games but rather to just discuss things in general,
and to emphasise [emphasize] that I can create game to order. Joel wants
me to go over Phil's rules for his REALM and will give 1/2% of
retail (3¢) royalty for doing it. Phil will get the full
2% of retail.
Phil told me a little about Joel's game that he wants to
call SPELLBOUND. Cross words are formed using colored chips, each one
representing several letters. Player who puts down chips an-
nounces the letters they represent, but another play can
change the letters as long as he can make everything fit.
(Rough idea.) Looked at my card on SPELLBOUND. Didn't have the
company name.
Once Phil gets settled at "Gamut of Games" he may come here
to do research in my library and collection. He will see that
the company pays me for my trouble.
Joel is thinking of coming out with a BACKGAMMON set. He
thinks it is getting popular again.
When I asked about Post cereals he said that Herb Hochstetter
is in the hospital. He doesn't know why, but several
months ago he was in for exhaustion.
I told Phil about NINE OF SWORDS being in the Childcraft catalog.
He also heard about it being around. He asked Andy Davis,
the lawyer, whether we will be getting more royalties. Davis
said we shouldn't hold our breath.
I asked about getting MANHATTAN MADNESS back. Phil also has
some things with Bob but hasn't gotten around to asking.
He checked with Andy Davis about the things with Bill Knox-
GROOVE, etc. - and he suggested sending a firm letter. Phil will
get it out.
Wrote the rules for SOLITAIRE DICE.
