27 WEDNESDAY - SEPTEMBER 1972
271ST DAY - 95 DAYS TO COME
Called Called Marvin Channing. It looks like they will be dropping the project.
He asked me for a "ball-park figure" of how much they owed me. I said
that the time was 3 weeks - at $10 an hour if they don't take the game.
He seemed to think that was O.K. I'm to call him next Thursday to see
whether I should send the bill, or go on with the changes in
ONE AT A TIME BY THE MILLIONS.
Called Fay Hartog. She connected me to Marcia Murray (Ext. 2704) of the
legal dept. She was busy but called me back later. She said that
since Random House hasn't made any use of the English rights and the
"commerical" rights, it was only right to return them to me (Fabio
apparently had something to do with it) and she'll send me a letter to
that effect.
Rcd. MOVES #4. Article on SOLDIERS; Martin Campion's
listing of "War Games" and "Peace Games". In peace games in-
cluded - EXTINCTION, NEW TOWN, CHICAGO, CHICAGO,
UP AGAINST THE WALL MOTHER F***ER!, CONFRONTATION, THE CITIES GAME,
BLACKS AND WHITES, SOCIETY TODAY, DRUG ATTACK, THE LIB GAME,
WOMAN AND MAN, LIE, CHEAT, & STEAL, CONVENTION, THE NEXT PRESIDENT,
MR. PRESIDENT, WHO CAN BEAT NIXON?, THE STOCK MARKET GAME,
STOCKS AND BONDS, THE GODFATHER GAME. Article by John Boardman:
mentioned an old election game which I recognized - ELECTION.
Reviewed CONVENTION and THE NEXT PRESIDENT.
To Boston Post Rd. and got repros [reproductions] of the material on STONED.
Also got repros of the three letters Martin Gardner
loaned me on 9/7. One from G.W. Lewthwaite had an unnamed
GAME and one called MEANDER (which can be played with
the AMOEBA equipment). Martin S. Feather sent FEZ, G.G.
Stewart sent an unnamed GAME.
Bought at John's 6 sets of plastic pieces in 4 colors
(total 120 of each color). Sold as a cheap imitation of
DEELIE BOBBERS.
Rcd. [received] call from Fred Feucht. He has a date set up with Marshall
Lucas at the M.B. [Milton Bradley] Showroom for Friday at 10, to show him the
six original p & p games (XANDO, etc.). He asked if I
wanted to be there and I said "yes."
Called Phil Orbanes and told him. Reiss would be very upset
if M.B. took those games. He'll get together with Fred tomorrow
and see what can be worked out.
Phil saw Carl about the contract terms today. They also
discussed the games. They (Hoi Polloi) decided that
GREAT WALL OF CHINA was too confusing. Phil came up with a variation
of BOXES which used uses a map of China as a background.
There is a tessallation [tessellation] of (I believe) hexes, squares, and tri-
angles with light lines defining the pattern (similar to
my previous idea). The'll [They'll] call it CHINESE CHECK.
The other games in the running are SPACE STATIONS
(cont. on 9/26)
