2 SATURDAY - SEPTEMBER 1972
246TH DAY - 120 DAYS TO COME
Rcd. [received] letter from Graeme Levin of GAMES & PUZZLES. He'll be in
New York the weekend of 9/22. Wrote saying that Sunday
9/24 would be the best for me.
Wrote to Earl suggesting date on 9/15 and asking him to
choose where.
Ideas for control in WAR AND PEACE. Players buy control by
giving 4 units of armament to the country. Half are lost in
"red tape," the rest goes into the armament of the country.
Another player can take over control for 6 units, then 8,
and finally 10. Control allows the player to take W. and P.
cards earned by the controlled country. Make and break alliances
for it. Get half the of one branch when enter-
ing the "Showdown Circle. Also worked out the details
of entering the "Showdown Circle."
While talking with dad, drew up and inked in a new board
for WAR AND PEACE.
Played UP THE ORGANIZATION with BB, Dale, and Phil.
Worked out well and they all liked it.
(cont. from 9/3)[9/7]
subset of 5 or possibly 6 of his 30 cubes under the
name MAYBLOX.
Martin was visited by a lawyer who was trying to get a patent
for his client for a set of PENTOMINOS that cannot by [be] turned
over - making 19 in the set. Martin told him that he agreed
with the patent office - there was nothing new and that it was
a shame to have the client waste the money.
Another patent discussed was one for HEX-A-CUBES, a
puzzle setup based on all possible arrangements of 6 cubes
joined together. Since they don't pack evenly into a box, some
duplicates are included. This was patented. (Possibly I
got the previous two mixed up.)
Martin mentioned a mathematician who was a specialist in
the game of BOXES. It is very difficult to master.
BB gave Martin her copy of the Jewish Cookbook for Charlotte.
[arrow pointing to row above and row below] [started 9/7]
Martin brought along a copy of TRIPPPLES that he had been
sent. Told him that I already have one but he didn't
want it and left it with me.
In his trip to Maine Martin came across a card game,
SHERLOCK HOLMES. He didn't know if I'd want it so he didn't
buy it. I located it in my notes from the Parker archives.
Martin took the IMPUZZABLES. They will be in December SCI. AM. [Scientific American]
showed them ARROW LIFE. Conway took the duplicate rules. Likes the idea
but thinks it could be done better.
