24 THURSDAY - AUGUST 1972
ST. BARTHOLOMEW, APOSTLE - 237th DAY - 129 DAYS TO COME
Call from Felicia. Yesterday she said she'd call today and read me the letter from Hallmark. She was at home but said she'd call after she goes to Rappaport's. Didn't. She said she is seeing some inventors tomorrow.
Called Marvin Channing to tell him I rcd. ONE DAY AT A TIME BY THE MILLIONS back from A.H. [Avalon Hill]. He heard from them, but they want a 4 month lead time. Told him about Western Publishing. He asked me to call them.
He rcd. my expense account and it is in bookkeeping. He inquired about my billing them for time and I reminded him that I wanted a flat fee for selling a game outright. He said that that's the way they want it - all rights sold to them.
They will not make a decision until their art director is back from vacation. He wants me to demonstrate. Didn't make a date.
Called Western Publishing. After speaking to quite a few people was told that the one to speak to was
{Western Publishing
{Irving Woods (753-8500)
{Commercial Sales
He wasn't in but I left my number. Said it was for WOMAN'S DAY.
Called Eve Auchincloss to tell her I hadn't forgotten the BOOK WORLD column. I'll put it in the mail during the weekend. O.K.
Said I'd probably drop in sometime next week. She said she'd like to see me.
Finished up the S&T column. Last part of TRIPPPLES and info on GAMES & PUZZLES.
Started BOOK WORLD column but couldn't do more than the introduction.
Call from Wald & Arthur. They are very enthusiastic about their idea from CASINO ROYALE. I said O.K., they could have it. Their idea is based on a simple gambling device, choosing one out of three cards, 1 out of 4, up to about in [1] in 6. Limitations in the amounts of the bets makes it necessary to plan how to break the bank. (Very rough.)
They will bring POWER to the next meeting. So I said I'd bring INVASION. Actually they are bringing the version originally called POWUR.
At a CHESS club, Wald met someone named "Rice" who said that he met me thru AGOG. (The name sounds familiar, but I can't place it.)
They definitely have no interest in UP THE ORGANIZATION (cont. on 8/22)
