23 WEDNESDAY - AUGUST 1972
236TH DAY - 130 DAYS TO COME
Rcd. ONE AT A TIME BY THE MILLIONS back from Avalon Hill. The box was pretty battered, but the insides were O.K.
Started working on S&T (#34) column. Wrote up DIMENSIONS, SPACE CHESS. When I started STRATO TAC-TICS I decided to try the 3rd sample game, the one giving the advanced game. It was full of errors. So much so that I had to mention it in the column. Did most of TRIPPPLES.
BB typed the FREEWORD rules. She walked to Boston Post Road and had two copies made. Sent one to Phil and one to Carl Eisenberg.
Called Felicia and she called me back, but from her apartment. The letter from Hallmark was great! As well as my games, they are including one of Connor Barrett's and Allan Turoff's. But they didn't mention DUEL and Felicia sent off a letter in a hurry.
Some companies are coming to see her next week, as well as a lot of inventors.
Marvin Katz called. His book is finished and he wants to meet to return 75 YEARS OF FUN and YESTERDAY'S GAMES to me. Because of my work load we postponed the meeting until after Labor Day. At my suggestion he read off what he had written on me for the book. I made some suggestions for greater accuracy, all of which he approved. Marvin Glass and some gal who does toys will be the others in the chapter on inventors.
Called Ideal at 200 Fifth to ask list price of THE BOSS. They couldn't give it to me but said that I had to call their ad agency (or is it P.R) and talk to:
Zeke Rose
686-2700
Ideal P.R.
Called and he was very pleasant. Wants to get together and take me to lunch and brainwash me about Ideal games. Told him I know Jules Cooper and that my column is primarily adult oriented, but he still wants to get together. We'll do it after Labor Day.
Called "Karen" at Lakeside. Told her I rcd. CHAOS, SPLIT LEVEL AGGRAVATION and the IMPUZZABLES. Told her I was including SPLIT LEVEL AGGRAVATION in BOOK WORLD. She asked for clippings. Told her I could get one for BOOK WORLD, but not for SCIENTIFIC AMERICAN. I'll give her date for that. (IMPUZZABLES, incidentally, sell for about $1.00). Got the list price of all 3, CHAOS and SPLIT LEVEL AGGRAVATION abt. [about] $5.
Rcd. a card from Eric Nielsen. More on ARROW LIFE. He is working
