17 THURSDAY - AUGUST 1972
230TH DAY - 138 DAYS TO COME
Drew up diagrams for GRASS ROOTS, ROAD BUILDERS, SOLITAIRE DICE,
and FREEWORD.
Called Bill Eckhart and asked him about the article on staple
games in which ACQUIRE was mentioned. He said he'd look for it
and call me back.
I told him I had a new game (VIMGO) which looked promising.
He said he'll be on vacation the next two weeks - also tomorrow -
and to call Wally Siegel about it.
Bob called me late in the evening. He hadn't found the article.
Possibly Wally may know where it is.
(cont. from 8/25) [8/25]
Chuck Daugherty called her about a new GAME. He tried to
get Bob Gellman, without success. Felicia finally got
him at his home. He is trying to get someone to take
over R.G.I, including HOLIDAY.
Talked some more about the new company that is coming on Monday.
She said they have some games - all dogs. I asked if it was
Kontrell. No, with a laugh.
BB will bring the rules of SIJJEH Monday. Also my
SPELLBINDER and PAIR-OFF.
Working on BOOKWORLD column. Did 4000 A.D., DEALER'S CHOICE,
ON-WORDS, and most of TRIPPPLES.
Saw that it was running longer than my previous columns.
Called Eve to check in. Not in and didn't call back.
Philip Kaplan came over with his puzzle TACTICS. (Told him
that the name had been used.) There are
4 levels in the puzzle: -
1) The 16 pcs. are placed as shown in the upper diagram, but with only the
colors and not the numbers showing.
[To the left Sid has drawn two diagrams. The upper one consists of 17 points (4 rows of 4 with an additional point at the exact center. Line segments connect the points with each other. Numbers are written in red, green, blue, orange, and black. The numbers range from 1 to 4.
The bottom diagram consists of 16 points in a 4 x 4 arrangement. Numbers are written next to the points. The numbers are written in red, green, blue, orange, and black. The numbers range from 1 to 4. These points are not connected by line segments.]
2) Same as above, but to do it in the
minimum number of moves - 37.
3) Use the numbers, changing from the upper arrangement to
the lower.
4) Same as above, but to do it in the
minimum number of moves - 72.
(Not quite sure I have the numbers
in exactly the right positions.)
Kaplan had me work on 1) myself.
Then showed me solution for 2) & 4).
Didn't stay long at all.
