13 THURSDAY - JULY 1972
195TH DAY - 171 DAYS TO COME
Cut the JUNGLE RACE board into quarters for easier
handling.
At Marboro bought TOYS by Patrick Murray for $1.00.
Bobby Fischer didn't show up for 2nd game of his CHESS
meet, and forfeited the game.
To WOMAN'S DAY for meeting with Marvin Channing (see 7/7) and
another executive (whose name I don't remember). Saw
a promotional film with football star Dick Butkus in it. A
parallel was made between Butkus always having to stay
in shape and the magazine always having to work because
they have no permanent circulation. They want
an adult game that will cover this; the name is
ONE AT A TIME BY THE MILLIONS, the same as the film.
They would like Butkus to be in the game, but it isn't
absolutely necessary.
The other executive asked about my fee and I said I
generally get $15 an hour for consulting work. He said to
keep track and bill them periodically, and to be sure not
to cheat myself.
They would like to have something preliminary to look at
before Aug. 3, when another executive goes on vacation.
I said I'd try. Took a pile of their ad sheets.
To Simulations. Made 5 sets of the basic rules for
BUGS AND LOOOPS. Gave one to Bob Felice (and later
added one to the letter to Phil Cohen, which BB typed).
Made repros of the rules for PIRATE AND TRAVELER
and the rules and other material for 1863 to give to
Ken Hoffman, who had asked for them earlier in the
week.
Spoke to Phil Orbanes. Bill Knox still hasn't returned
his calls about GROOVE, etc. No further word on Bob Hallowell's stock offering.
To outdoor bar-b-cue at Jim Dunnigan's & Beth's apartment.

{[personal phone omitted for privacy]
Speaking with Dale, Phil, Ken Hoffman, Phil Orbanes
(who left very soon with Anna & their son), and a little with Red.
Called Claude (after calling BB and learning that he and Wald
had called me) and spoke about HASBRO in general and I
mentioned the similarity between THE BRAIN GAME and
CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD. We'll wait and see the latter before
saying anything further.
Called Wald. He'll contact Wexler and set up a date for NYGA
to test games at B & B.
Rcd. a copy of MOVES - No. 3 - by mail.
