11 TUESDAY - JULY 1972
193RD DAY - 173 DAYS TO COME
Rcd. THE GAMESLETTER (#38). Mentions some catalogs
rcd. including "World Wide Games, Inc (the Delaware outfit)
which has expensive wooden games (among others HELMA and
TREK - a 3D TICK TACK TOE variation), Big League Game Co. (BIG LEAGUE MANAGER, PRO BASKETBALL, PRO FOOTBALL, PRO BOXING,
MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL, PRO GOLF GAME, PRO HOCKEY, and
catalog is supposed to have much more); Publishers Central Bureau
(TRI-TAC-TOE, BRIDGETTE, THE NEXT PRESIDENT, and others); Wff 'N Proof (nothing new).
In a vignette of Anthony Dickens he, Anthony, mentions my
hospitality in his trip to the U.S. A GUIDE TO FAIRY CHESS is of course
featured.
A reader asks for any info he can get on programs for
playing SPACE WAR, which is played using a cathode ray
tube. He mentions an article on it in TIME on similar
games. Looked for it and found it in the 5/22/72 issue.
It is a series of games packaged together by Magnavox, under
the overall name of ODYSSEY.
To Leonard Willett's to look over my 1969 & 1970 tax returns.
1969 was in pretty good shape but the accountant goofed
up my 1970. I'll have to go there again next week.
Called the I.R.S. in the afternoon and made date for Aug. 3.
Called Leonard to tell him.
Call from
{Byran Dobell, Executive Editor
{NEW YORK Magazine
{207 East 32nd St. ([phone number])
He is interested in a piece on the Spassky - Fischer CHESS match.
Eve Auchincloss (he used to work at BOOK WORLD) told him about
me and that I write very well. I told him that definitely
wasn't an expert on CHESS, in fact I don't even like it too much.
He said "Good, then you can write something different." I said I'd
think about it and then call him at the end of the week to see
if I've come up with anything he likes.
Called Walter Siegel to tell him about JUNGLE RACE. Not in and didn't
call back.
Felicia called. She heard from Bob Johnson. He rcd. AGOG,
loves it, and is writing to thank me.
PAIR OFF is being returned. He is sending it to me.
They like FOCUS and are keeping it for further study.
He told her that THE RIGHT CONNECTIONS will definitely be on
sale on 6/1/73, and FITTING & PROPER will be on sale 8/1/73.
There is no definite word as to when the games will be on
sale but he promised to let me know as soon as they know.
The only thing they are interested in looking at at present are
2-hand strategy GAMEs.
She talked about taking me up on my offer to loan her money and
reducing I.S.'s cut (her idea). Only a quick mention.
