5 WEDNESDAY - JULY 1972
187TH DAY - 179 DAYS TO COME
While I was at the bank BB rcd. a call from a Mr. Channing of WOMAN'S DAY. I called when I got back,
but he was out of the office. Supposed to call back but
didn't and I called again late in the afternoon. Secretary
said he'd call me tomorrow morning. Told her I was leaving at 10.
Called Bob Gellman and finally got him in. Told him of the
problem contacting Bob Schneider, about SCOTLAND YARD.
I told him that I had called him first, not collect, and then
he hadn't called back - this after Gellman said that
Schneider resented my collect calls.
Gellman said that probably SCOTLAND YARD won't be out this
year, but will be introduced in 1973 Toy Fair, so there
is no hurry. I suggested my going to the factory with
him sometime and play the game together. He liked the idea.
I brought up the cards for WHEELS and he'll check with
Schneider about getting me the info on the cards.
HOLIDAY will be in the Brentano's catalog (Henry Levy
had been intending to put it in COOKS TOURS but Gellman
reminded him that R.G.I. had good quality and I do good games) and
Brentano's - Koch in Chicago. He has been getting good
orders and it looks better for '72 than he originally figured.
Called Martin Gardner about ARROW LIFE. He was interested
in it, but probably won't be doing another column on the
subject of LIFE for some time since he already did two.
He'll send a copy to the publisher of LIFELINE magazine.
Martin happened to mention that he had just sent in a column
on cube dissection puzzles other than SOMA, including
one, called THE DIABOLICAL CUBE, which he found in an
old puzzle book. It has 6 pieces - a 2 cube, 3 cube, 4 cube, 5 cube, 6 cube, and 7 cube. Conway, who was visiting Martin went thru
the possibilities in about 10 minutes and discovered that
there were only a few (I don't remember how many) solutions.
I mentioned Jerry D'Arcey's IMPUZZABLES, and he would
like to mention them. Told him that I'd get a set for
him and then we'll get together and he'll see them and
ARROW LIFE. He is not sure that he will be able to add them
to the already prepared column, but if he can't he will be able
in the next month.
Called Padilla, Sarjeant, Sullivan, & Speer. Tom Nelson is now working
in Minneapolis. Also they no longer handle Lakeside.
Called Eve Auchincloss at WASHINGTON POST office. Not in.
Supposed to call back but didn't.
Claude called. He is working on a game to show Friday that he
calls INSTANT DIPLOMA. Players get various "licenses" to steal,
