16 FRIDAY - JUNE 1972
188TH DAY - 198 DAYS TO COME
Sent PLAYTHINGS order card fot ELECTION & GOOGOL.
Rcd. NOST-ALGIA (June '72 - #146). Phil Cohen's column
continues & finishes the LOA game. More on CRASH. Will
discuss DYNAMO CHESS in next column.
Rcd. letter from Tom Shaw asking about the picture of the
xerox exhibit to use in THE GENERAL. Also asked how
EXECUTIVE DECISION is doing since they are thinking of
reactivating MANAGEMENT.
Finally got the letter to Graeme Levin of GAMES & PUZZLES
typed & mailed. Mentioned POKOL, SPROUTS, MONOPOLY, possibility
of using FOCUS, PATTERNS II, COMBINATION (offered to send him AGOG if he doesn't have it) as an article in the magazine.
Asked for information on THE GAME abd POLYOPTOMY; also for
Foyle's catalogue.
Called R.G.I. in New Jersey. Bob Schneider at lunch and left word for
him to call me about SCOTLAD YARD. Didn't.
(cont. from 6/17) [6/30]
player's marker that player then picks odd or even and
throws the die. If he wins he gets all the money the
other player's have. If he loses he places all his money in
a pile, largest denomination on top, and deals it out to
the other players. [illegible crossed out]
(Played about an hour, but the Genius made the rest of
the play incidental. Discussed ways of remedying this, including
a betting limit to ordinary bets which is waived when
a player meets the Genius. Claude and I still weren't
thrilled with the game.
Played THE BRAIN GAME. Played until 6 companies (out of the
9 exposed) were taken. Played in about an hour. Claude
said he'd like to play it again. Arthur said that because of
his eyes he had trouble seeing the cards. Wald said that
there was nothing new in the game (and I pointed out all
that was). Claude suggested adding personality to the
game by making the President's different, each one calling
for some change in staff. (This was a step in the direction of
CINEMA, which I don't want to do.) Wald suggested a greater
spread between the lowest and highest numbers and I think
I'll change from a 17 top to a 25 top. (Started with $100,000).
Played around with Claude'sUPSTAGE. He introduced a new
feature. Instead of just placing the pcs. there are
four discs for each player. At first these were placed
in the 2 x 2 area of each player's cornre (see 2/17 for
board - tho his new one may be somewhat different). They
