10 SATURDAY - JUNE 1972
162ND DAY - 204 DAYS TO COME
Rcd. the SQUARE OFF and DEALER'S CHOICE "glossies" and a letter
from Ken Irsay.
Rcd. a letter from Jerry D'Arcey. Dick Harris of M.B. kept
FRANCHISE and EARTHQUAKE.
Rcd. a letter from Stephen. R. Langlas of Midwest Research.
Samples are being sent of their 3 games: MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL GAME
NATIONAL BASKETBALL PLAYERS' ASSOCIATION GAME, and
UNITED STATES AUTO CLUB RACING GAME. Also sent ad material
on the 3 games.
Looked up the rules for RED LETTER, TRIPLE CROSS, DIGIT, and
SHAPE AND SHATTER, preparatory to sending them to Bob Johnson.
Found copoies I could use for the first 2, but have to retype
DIGIT using the yellow preliminary set. Also have to
retype SHAPE AND SHATTER from the old set in the CARRE box.
(cont. frm 6/11) [7/20]
Hoi Polloi has taken over Bob's TRI-TAC-TOE and will pay
him royalties (after the debt is made up I suppose).
NINE OF SWORDS is just about dead. The royalty check
Phil just rcd. is for less than $8.00.
Phil is afraid that S & T overextended by advertising too
much. He thinks that eventually the ads will pay off but
in the meantime the company is pinched for cash. Phil is not
particularly happy grinding out war games.
While with Carl Eisenberg today we went over SPACE STIX
and FREE FORM. I took them both but he said that
they might be interested in FREE FORM sometime in the future
but not SPACE STIX.
Riess is interested in building up Hoi Polloi and dropping
his other accounts. Phil later confirmed this - even to
dropping Mag-Nif.
One reason Carl gave for not wanting Phil working on Reiss was
"because he was doing a lot of work for Gamut of Games". Later I
asked Phil about what he was working on for them and it is just the
repackaging for BRIDGETTE. Jed talks about having others submitting
games but Phil thinks that Joel will want to do it all himself.
I asked where their money comes from. Waldemar Von Zedtwitz,
the BRIDGE expert, is a millionaire and is putting up the money, and
gives them a pretty free hand.
Carl offered me the copy of AGOG I gave him. I said that if he
wants to read it he should keep it. He wants.
Earl called while I was out. Claude and Anne are coming to his temporary
apartment. He invited us, but it was too late by the time I came home.
