9 FRIDAY - JUNE 1972
SACRED HEART - 161ST DAY - 205 DAYS TO COME
Rcd. a letter from Don Turnbull, the publisher of
ALBION. He asked if I could suggest manufacturers of
the "best" games for review. Also if I could send him some
spare games. Mentioned 4,000 A.D. and SPECULATE.
Rcd. a letter from Eve Auchincloss. The joint [illegible crossed out]
BOOK WORLD folded. She is now working with the
WASHINGTON POST's own BOOK WORLD and wondered if I'd like
to prepare a summer roundup of games. She sent me an
ad clipping for OUTDOOR SURVIVAL (which is the game Jim Dunnigan
did for Stackpole Books, thru A.H.)
I called Eve and later she called me back. She is not sure
if she will stay with the Washington Post but in the meantime
she wanted a piece on games. Told her I was very
busy now but that I would try to have it by the end of
July which was good with her. The Post still has syndication
with San Francisco, New Orleans, and possibly the
international Herald Tribune. The fee will still be $200.
Called Mike Alber. Out of town but Ken Irsay called me back later.
Asked for a "glossy" of DEALER'S CHOICE for S & T. Also told him
about BOOK WORLD. Asked for ORION for Red Simonsen and
DEALER'S CHOICE for the Saperstein's. Sure.
As an afterthought called again and asked the secretary to have
him include the approximate price for DEALER'S CHOICE, and also
a "glossy" and price for SQUARE OFF.
Called Publisher's Central Bureau about my order of 4/27 for
MATHEMATICAL DIVERSIONS and ILLUSTRATED GAMES OF PATIENCE
The gal said it was probably lost and to send repro of
the canceled check and a list of the material and they would
send out another order. Later noticed that their date on
the check was May 16, the same as my second order of
5/9. (Will call again on Monday.)
Called Bernie Lane and he said he was about to call me about on
display at Xerox. Told him that there were a number that I would
like but we decided that it would be easier for him to take them all
back and then I'd pick them up at their place.
Told Bernie that I rcd. the $700 but not the expense money.
He is calling Rasor today and will check on it.
Told him what Mary McKee told me about calling her collect if she
forgot to send me contact prints of my portion of the exhibit.
He said not to - that he'd talk to her about it. Also asked him
to have her send me another copy of the COMPUTAMATIC FOOTBALL
and RSVP large pictures.
Called Jack Davis about the clippings from the Xerox exhibit. I'll
probably bring them to him to copy on 6/19, unless he needs
them sooner & calls me.
