3 SATURDAY - JUNE 1972
CONFEDERATE MEMORIAL DAY - (TENN. & KY) - 155TH DAY - 211 DAYS TO COME
Earl called. The daughter of the Japanese manufacturer will
be coming to the U.S. Earl asked if he could invite her
here to see my collection. Sure.
Earl is interested in getting games from manufacturers for use
in a game program he wants to set up at Albany College where
he is going this fall for his post-graduate work. Also for his
friend, Peter, who is using games with problem children.
I'll tell him who to contact.
(cont. from 7/22) [7/24]
3M has tried to get Parker to take over the line and to
get M.B. to pay them for discontinue it, both without success.
3M also hinted that they'd like Reiss to rep for
them, but Reiss ignored the hints. He is discontinuing
repping - with possible exception of Mag-Nif and building up Hoi Polloi.
Hoi Polloi is not competing with Parker or M.B. but
with the other small companies such as Pacific, Executive
Games, U.S. Game Systems with their Tarot Cards (and
Stancraft is moving into this too). With their 4 page
"stuffers" Hoi Polloi will get more and more of this
market. (I think that Carl said that they will be sending
out some 12,000,000 next year.)
Carl said that Springbok had spent a lot of money preparing
to enter the market this spring and then decided not to.
He knows someone who has several contracts with them.
(I didn't say anything.)
I brought up the American Greeting Card games (LINK-UP
etc.). Carl said - "Well you don't see them around do you."
Carl mentioned that at the printers he couldn't help
but notice that "Gamut of Games" had ordered
75,000 BRIDGETTEs printed. He thought that this was much
too optimistic, but Phil said that they just didn't have
any money worries. Phil also said that his only connection
with "Gamut of Games" was in designing packages.
Phil and I postponed our date for this Thursday until we
had more games ready to work on.
To Lakeside. Norman Stein not there. Told "Karen" the same
story I told him on 7/6. She'll check on THE IMPUZZABLES,
SPLIT-LEVEL AGGRAVATION, and CHAOS and see that I get them.
Went to Bob Gellman's office but no one was there.
Walked to office of WASHINGTON POST (In Newsweek Bldg.)
to see Eve Auchincloss. In Washington. Left a message
for her to call me.
To Random House. Spoke to Fay Hartog about the possibil[ity]-
(cont. on 6/2)
