27 SATURDAY - MAY 1972
148TH DAY - 218 DAYS TO COME
At Great Eastern Mills bought 3 yards of green Kwik Kover. Also a
box of crayons to use for COMPUTER BINGO. Discovered that
only the black really works right.
Played COMPUER BINGO with the Laurences. At first Annette didn't
get it but by the time we finished she said she'd like to
try it again. BB still doesn't like it. Phil objected to my rule
allowing players who went later to complete the round after
someone has completed. He says that going first is no advantage
and I think he is right. Another idea would be to have each
player, including the one who completed, to have one additional
turn. I think I'd prefer the name DATA BINGO.
Showed them PAIR OFF solitaire and Amy particularly liked it.
Played a little 2-hand with Phil.
(cont. from 5/28) [5/31]
money. The "objectives" seemed almost impossible to achieve. I suggested,
as a possible corrective, that players be allowed to
use a market change card as either up or down, regardless of
its printed direction. Or possibly "up" should be used only for
up while "down" gives a choice.
Claude was thinking of trying FAR AWAY PLACES with the 4 center
squares plain (see 5/26). Didn't get a chance tonight.
Claude gave me a clipping from PARADE (May 14, 1972) called
"Peace is the Name of the Game". Discussed ORIGINS OF WORLD WAR II
and DIPLOMACY.
Brought Earl MOVES #2 and S & T GUIDE #1 & 2. Claude would also
like the latter.
[Arrows pointing up and down] [Started 5/31]
Rcd. NOST-ALGIA (May '72 - #145). Has rules of BEROLINA CHESS. Phil
Cohn's column has some CRASH problems and the start of
an LOA game.
Rcd. letter from Lou Zocchi about why he hasn't heard from me
concerning THE STAR TREK BATTLE MANUAL.
Rcd. a description of and rules for HEXA-GO which were sent to
Martin Gardner, and he sent them to me.
Rcd. a letter from Haar Hoolim. Mentioned UP, 7-UP, FOCUS, BITS,
TANGRAMS, NETWORK (his), unnamed p. and p. GAME, JAPANESE CHESS,
3-D CHESS, TOROIDAL CHESS, STOPLO (STOPOLO), LET ME THINK.
Also enclosed some Hebrew rules - for what?
I forgot to bring the HOLIDAY material with me when I went to
meet Jerry. Called BB and she brought it downtown. She
stayed talking to Jerry when I left to go to R.G.I.
In Childcraft bought a doodling gadget with 8 plastic pcs. fastened
together with elastic. Made in Germany. ($.75)
