6 SATURDAY - MAY 1972
127TH DAY - 239 DAYS TO COME
Was going to prepare new material for my new ideas for DATA
but found that I had prepared cards and black markers for
the original set. Colored the symbols on the "address cards" for easier
identification and made a set of "sorting" cards, 7 each of the
6 colors.
With Phil Laurence started a game of DIALEMMA using the 3,4,5,6,7
scoring strip. It worked fine. Decided on a rule that if one
player ends his move by turning an opponent's piece, the opponent
cannot start his move by turning that piece. Phil stopped after
I got 30 points to his 5. He said that he couldn't visualize the
upcoming positions.
Played DATA with Phil. Used two piles each. Object was to complete
3 horizontal rows and 5 vertical columns. Added a rule that at
the end of a move a player could place 2 unneeded "sorting" cards
in the discard and take one in addition to the two he is entitled
to at the end of his turn. Start with each player having 3
from each deck. Must play at least one of each on a turn, and
then draw 2 from each.
I won a very close one and we both agreed I've got it now.
Phil suggested the name COMPUTER BINGO.
Rcd. another "Publisher's Central Bureau" folder. They have a book
CHARGE: OR HOW TO PLAY WAR GAMES for $1. I'll get it.
Earl called. Finalized our date for Monday.
At the beginning of April he submitted two games to Parker and
hasn't heard from them yet : - ZODIAC ZOO and PHILANTHROPY which
he said is something like MONOPOLY. He'll show me the rules
Monday. Told him that with my LOTTERY we are in competition.
He'd like to see POINT OF LAW and I said I'd bring the book.
He said he may have a GAME ready to show on Monday. He also asked
me to bring something and I said I would.
Earl rcd. an answer from the inventor of HEXAGO. He is still interested
in trying to get it published.
(Cont. from 5/7) [5/8]
Issie and I played two games of FOCUS. He won the
first and I won the second.
We discussed the matter of the government grant for
games and the aged but didn't come to any conclusions.
Alfons Rubbens called from Toronto during day. Told BB he'd
call tomorrow.
Rcd. a pleasant letter from Mildred Mikkanen and her
clipping on me from THE TIMES-UNION. Also separately rcd.
the Xerox press kit on the exhibit and another copy
of Mildred's clipping.
Rcd. ads for Dover books, including A GUIDE TO FAIRY CHESS. (Filed in Book Ads.)
