20 MONDAY - MARCH 1972
FIRST DAY OF SPRING - 80TH DAY - 286 DAYS TO COME
Rcd. a nice letter from Don Laycock. Thanked me for my S & T
columns. Wants more info on the magazine. He'd like a
copy of QUERIES 'N THEORIES. Sent me copies of a catalog
from "The Jigsaw Factory". The games that might be of
interest are : THE GATE OF THE SUN, NORTH FACE, PIRATES!, and
JIGSCORE. There is a children's spelling game called SPELLBOUND.
He is sending me a small New Guinea carving.
He is coming to the U.S. in the summer of '73. He'd like to
visit me; also would like to meet Martin Gardner and
Bud (Bob?) Abbott.
Called Mickey Mackey. I'll go over there Thursday, after 10,
to get games for the Xerox exhibit.
To a bazaar in Edith's neighborhood. Bought a gross of file
folders, 500 envelopes, 100 manilla envelopes, 10 yellow pads,
and some other stationery.
Went over the rules for POTENTIAL noting the changes due
to the change from 5 & 10 to 7 & 11. [The numbers here are all circled.]
Rcd. the 6 copies of NINE OF SWORDS I asked Bob Hallowell to send me.
(One "R" sword was broken.)
Working on DIALEMMA and pretty much decided on having
cards with set configurations on them. Also some with
type setups, such as all 1's, all 2's, etc. 4 of these are exposed and
whoever makes the configuration gets the card.
Worked out a starting position for 2, 3, and 4 players
which allowed for the same cards to be used.
Thinking about DATA. On the sheet with the 60 spaces
have, say, 10 small spaces next to each classification.
Each time that classification is sorted a space is marked.
Also have another area with, say, 50 small spaces. Every
time an address card is used one of these is marked.
A player can use from 1 to 5 (the number in hand)
address cards at one time. Also he can sort from 1 to 6
classifications. When a player has used up all his marks
he is out of the play and the remaining players have
a set number of turns left to finish up.
(cont. from 3/22) [3/22]
David Eisendrath called. He will be over on 3/27 with LE TROIKER.
Called Earl Perel to confirm date tomorrow.
